OUR WORK

What We Do

We bring organisations together to secure CITES protection for plants and animals affected by trade.

Working together at CITES

SSN provides a framework for international cooperation among non-governmental organisations. Through it, environmental, conservation and animal protection organisations can present the governments that take part in CITES with a strong, clear and informed common position.

SSN and its members help CITES Parties make decisions on species in international trade by providing facts and information, and by being a resource for, and an active partner in, wildlife education and enforcement around the world.

Our work

How we work

Everything we do helps people take part in CITES with the best information available.

Coordination

We bring conservation, environmental and animal protection organisations together to secure CITES protection for species affected by trade.

Information

We give organisations around the world the information they need to take part in the CITES process, through our email list and WhatsApp group for members.

Research and analysis

Our legal and scientific analysis helps Parties understand the meeting documents, proposals and resolutions before them, and what their decisions mean for species.

At CITES meetings

Briefings for CITES meetings

As a registered international non-governmental observer, SSN takes part in CITES meetings: the Conference of the Parties and the Standing, Animals and Plants Committees.

For each Conference of the Parties we produce the CITES Digest, which summarises the meeting documents and gives SSN’s suggestions based on our analysis of the issues. For committee meetings we publish a briefing. Both are shared with all CITES Parties, in English, Spanish and French.

Wildlife protection depends on effective international cooperation.
