Decisions at CITES COP13 involved such high profile species as the African elephant, the minke whale, Asian freshwater turtles, great white shark, the humphead wrasse and ramin.
Proposals were approved to initiate trade in ivory ekipas (Namibia), elephant leather (South Africa), and the bald eagle.
Increased trade controls for other species were approved. These included, among others, the Irrawaddy dolphin (captured for display), yellow-crested cockatoo (captured for pets), five species of Asian freshwater turtles (collected for pets, food and medicinal purposes), great white shark, humphead wrasse, ramin, and agarwood.
