The
SSN Sea Turtle Working Group consists of organizations and sea turtle
experts from around the world that work on monitoring trade,
conservation, research, national and international policy to ensure
that the seven species of sea turtles, all currently listed on Appendix
I of CITES, are protected from the harmful effects of commercial trade
in their parts or products. The group works closely with Parties,
intergovernmental organizations, regional and international agreements
with mandates to protect marine turtles, as well as many kinds of non
governmental organizations, to achieve its goals. Since its conception
the group has successfully worked to maintain the protection for
hawksbills and green sea turtles within CITES.
